Columbia 400 Equipment Details
Teledyne Continental Motors (TCM) TSIO-550-C
The Teledyne Continental Motors TSIO-550-C engine powering the Columbia 400 is a six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged, twin-intercooled, horizontally opposed, engine incorporating the design, manufacturing, and service features aimed at improving performance and economy as its naturally aspirated IO-550-N cousin used on the Columbia 350. The TSIO-550-C incorporates a balanced intake system providing equalized air distribution to each of the six cylinders. This balanced air distribution system, coupled with the TCM Fuel Injection System, optimizes the output of all six cylinders, providing the most power available with the lowest possible fuel consumption. The components of the TSIO-550-C are produced in the largely vertically integrated Manufacturing Excellence center at TCM’s headquarters on the latest in computer-controlled manufacturing equipment. Using the latest in computer controls and monitoring, the TSIO-550-C is produced to tight variances on critical components and engine characteristics that result in a engine that is essentially blueprinted direct from the factory. TCM offers week-long factory training courses open to the owners of Columbia aircraft and welcomes customer tours.
